Hartmut Beyer: "Bucharest is a perfect place.

Hartmut Beyer, C.E.O. of Bucharest-Ring s.r.l., drew a positive conclusion after the races on Saturday were finished. Ambassadors from different cities had visited the second edition of the Bucharest City Challenge to take a closer look at the organisation.

"Representatives from eight different cities all over the world have been here at the Bucharest-Ring to watch the races", Hartmut Beyer said proudly. "They are all thinking about organizing a street race like ours."

With his organisation Beyer thinks that one or two more races per year are possible. "Perhaps we can arrange one more event in 2009, if another city wants to have it." If another city also plans a street race, Beyer wants to establish a little series that consists only of city races. "It should not be a championship of its own, only a ranking for prize money. You might compare it to the Four-Hills tournament in ski jumping."

To do this, logistics have to be optimized. "We will invite steel companies to develop a system of mobile guard rails. We could use it in all cities around the world instead of the blocks of concrete, which are too heavy to transport. It will make it easier to establish some more street races."

Hartmut Beyer is happy with the 2008 edition of the Bucharest City Challenge."The weather is fantastic, we have a lot of spectators, the Prime Minister and other representatives from the Rumanian government and ambassadors of various countries were here. The atmosphere in Bucharest is special, it is difficult to find a better place in the world. We have old streets, old buildings, no rails on the streets and the track is not surrounding an isle with houses where people live, so that we would effectively prevent them from getting in and out for a couple of days. The Parliament is on summer holiday, so we don't have any problems here. The conditions for organising a city race in Bucharest are perfect. And where else in the world would you find a backdrop like this?"
