Hartley wins Formula 3 race in Bucharest
23. August 2008Brendon Hartley has won the 19th round of the British Formula 3 Championship held at the Bucharest-Ring on Saturday afternoon. The race was red-flagged after Ricardo Teixeira had spun on a track that was slippery because of the damage of the engine from Sergio Perez.![]()
Hartley led all the way from lights to flag. After the start he directly pulled a gap over second-placed Oliver Turvey. On the fifth lap Kristjan Einar and Philip Major crashed after Stefan Wilson hit both of them. At the same time Steven Guerrero crashed into the wall. To clean the circuit the safety car entered the track.
Racing resumed after five laps. Hartley set the pace again, followed by Turvey, Jaime Alguersuari and Esteban Guerrieri. Shortly after the restart the engine of Sergio Perez started blowing oil on the asphalt, making the track more and more slippery. The Mexican driver had to abandon his race in the pits.
On lap 16 Ricardo Teixeira was the first driver who spun because of Perez oil. The yellow Ultimate-Mygale of the Angolan driver didn't hit the walls, but it was blocking the track. For this reason and because of the slippery track the race was stopped with the red flag.
Finally it was Brendon Hartley who could celebrate his fifth victory in the British Formula 3 ahead of Oliver Turvey, Jaime Alguersuari and Esteban Guerrieri. BGriton Turvey is still leading the championship.
