Mick Devaney: "Nice and challenging track."
22. August 2008For some of the Formula 3 youngsters the race at the Bucharest Ring is the second appearance on this track. The sophomore drivers are Atte Mustonen, Sergio Perez, Walter Grubmüller, John Martin, Mick Devaney, Ricardo Teixeira, Esteban Guerrieri and Max Chilton. Two of them compared the course of 2008 with the lay-out of the track they raced on one year ago.

"The circuit is now a little slower", said Mick Devaney, who is driving a Mygale-Mercedes entered by Ultimate Motorsport. "There is not one special part of the 3.1 kilometres which is significantly slower, it's more or less the whole circuit. Some parts are much tighter than last year."
Another new aspect is that the two chicanes have been built in another way. "Last year there were walls to create the chicanes, this time they used kerbs." The Irishman, who is currently eighth in the championship, preferred the old way: "Cult is a street circuit, which means that you have walls all over next to you. But the Bucharest Ring is still a nice and challenging track."
Atte Mustonen from Finland can also look back on some experience on the circuit around the Palace of the Parliament. He considers the chicanes more convenient than they were before. "Now, without the walls directly near the street, you can see more, when you come towards the chicanes. You can see the part of the track behind the chicane, because there are no walls in your way."
As the kerbs are not very flat, Mustonen would not advice his Formula 3 colleagues to driver over it. "For a Formula 3 car I guess, they are a little too high."
The Räikkönen Robertson driver, who is classified fifth in the British Formula 3 championship, also realized that the track is now slower and some parts are tighter. "But all in all, the circuit is quite the same, the differences are not too big. It is still important to keep the concentration on a high level during the whole lap."
