More than three hours after the finish of the race, the news came through that the Saleen had failed the regular airbox test, a normal inspection procedure in which the airbox is being blocked off. Normally, a combustion engine immediately stalls when this happens, because it is short of air. In case of the Saleen, it didn't stall and that was an infringement of Article 258.5.3.2 of Appendix J of the international FIA regulations. The stewards of the meeting decided to exclude the Saleen from the results. The team didn't appeal, so the results are final, with Bartels and Bertolini as the new winners.
