Clio Cup action at Hungaroring
30. August 2009The Clio Cup Alpe-Adria visited the Hungaroring for the second time this year after their previous rounds held during the World Series by Renault event in June. The Budapest City Challenge meeting saw the seventh and eighth round of the season for the Clio drivers. Both encounters were won by Italian drivers: Christian Ricciarini scored his first season win in the first race, points leader Giancarlo Lenzotti won the second one, celebrating his fifth win of the year.

In the first race, Italian driver Christian Ricciarini made the most out of his pole position as he scored a lights-to-flag victory, finishing ahead of Frenchman Nicolas Milan and championship leader Giancarlo Lenzotti. Milan picked up the two bonus points as a reward for setting the fastest lap in the race. For Ricciarini, it was the first victory of the season. The race provided plenty of action. Composit Motorsport team-mates Dan Liposcak and Stefano Zanini were both involved in a collision in the first corner and had to park their cars in the pits after the opening lap already. While the race had started in dry conditions and all drivers subsequently were out on slick tyres, a slight drizzle set in after a few laps and then the rain became heavier as the race went on. Conditions got worse and worse, which prompted the clerk of the course to send the safety car out to lead the field on the final three laps.
The second race saw Giancarlo Lenzotti taking the lead having started from pole position. The Italian driver never looked back and drove his fifth victory of the season home, which allowed him to extend his lead in the points standings. He completed his success by setting the fastest race lap time which allowed him to add another two points to his tally. Second place went to Nicolas Milan, Christian Ricciarini ended up third. The only retirement was Frenchman Paul Parenthoen, who lost control coming out of the second corner on the opening lap and landed in the Armco barriers.
